Searching for a president
As mentioned previously, I am chairing the search committee which is seeking to fill the position of president at Opportunity International Canada. I’ve been working with KMA Consultants on this, and the initial work has been to define what we are exactly seeking in this individual.
We took time to carefully draw together input from the board, staff, and the network, and it has resulted in a two page profile which we are using to disseminate widely in the quest for the right person.
The President’s purpose is to lead Opportunity International Canada and its supporters across this country in our shared mission to answer Christ’s call to serve the poor.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President currently has five direct reports, and is responsible for national operations in Canada, including leading in creating and implementing all aspects of Opportunity International Canada’s strategic and operational plans. The President also is the primary link with other Opportunity International partners in the Opportunity International global network.
The impact of the incoming President will be felt in consistent, sustainable and significant growth in revenue; many more Canadians involved in microenterprise support, and a much more fully developed organization, with a visionary and supportable long-term strategic plan. The President must bring both inspiration and effective administration to a capable staff team of 12, who look to the President for an integrated plan, and the resources to implement.
In the role as a spokesperson for both Opportunity International, and the cause of the poor, the President must relate well to a wide-range of stakeholders, from donors of all kinds (including corporate) to government representatives and international partners.
For the President, sustained collaboration with the Board of Opportunity International Canada is a high priority. Together the President and the Board will ensure the key values of Opportunity International Canada are lived out: respect, commitment to the poor, integrity, stewardship and transformation.
The President also ensures Opportunity International Canada is as an effective and credible partner internationally, while growing the capacity of the Canadian operation.
